Can't Wait for the Ultimate Edition!   Sunday, June 2, 2002 (5:02 p.m.)

I can't wait for the ultimate edition! While the album contained almost all the new music, there are some short cues that I love. Like the heroic version of Yoda's theme when he saves Obi-Wan and Anakin, and some various other small cues. Maybe the Ultimate Edition will have more unused music that got replaced by TPM music. Hey, we can always dream...

Niether can I. I loved the ultimate edition from TMP. The music of AOTC is supurb. The best I've heard from him in a while. I so want that Yoda cue and the one where Anakin tells Amidala about killing the Tusken Raiders. The music made that scene all the more better.

The only thing is, TPM's UE was such a hackjob. I hope that AOTC is more like the original album, just more music. The way the original trilogy special editions were.

I'm a little worried about an Ultimate Edition... For TPM, didn't they just pull the music directly from the film rather than use the stuff the LSO actually recorded? If they do the same for this one, you may as well just buy the first release of AotC and the ultimate TPM... talk about buyer beware.

They did indeed.. I was very disappointed in TPM's Ultimate Edition. I mean, it's nice having the music as heard in the film as a reference to compare against I suppose, but any true 'Ultimate Edition' would likely have been four CD's in size, and included everything that old UE had, plus the first disc's content, plus the other recordings LSO made that got left out due to space considerations on the first soundtrack.

THAT would be an 'Ultimate Edition'. Sort of like what 20th Century Fox did with the original trilogy in that boxed set from a couple years (well, a decade or so) ago. Or what was done with the Special Edition re-releases. (Though that contained some new music, but two CD's per movie of original cues was a VERY nice thing.)

Re: Thinking back, Id' prefer "SE" over "UE"...   Tuesday, June 4, 2002 (3:54 a.m.)

Yes, exactly so. In these regards we're still missing a special edition for "The Phantom Menace" space opera, but I don't want to wait another 17 years ('til approx. 2019) for any TPM special edition to come out to follow suit of the RCA's releases. Although it's possibly the best thinkable treatment that could have ever happened to Star Wars music the way it is available on their 3 double discs, the long wait is what I can't seem to wish to undergo. I know "elderly" fans had to wait as many as 20 years (if I exclude the 93's splendid Star Wars Anthology you talked about Will), but I (we) don't have/want to hang on that long, do we? We have the compact disc technology today to make it happen yesterday at the latest. Back in 1977 or even still in 1980, there was no such thing as compact disc and vinyl as such might have been thought of as an inappropriate medium for sake of which it wasn't worth the strain. But nowadays...........

Sorry, but Sony says they're not planning on releasing an expanded score album for "Attack of the Clones." Of course, it could just be a marketing ploy, since who would buy the one that's out now if they knew there would be an expanded edition coming out? If you want to let Sony know you want an expanded release, go to www.jwfan.net and sign the Complete Score Petition.
