Question for John Williams fans!   Thursday, June 20, 2002 (1:38 p.m.)

Hi! I posted a comment similar to this one on the Harry Potter page. But since this page has been buzzin' I thought I'd ask my question here. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF JOHN WILLIAMS IS SCORING THE HARRY POTTER SEQUEL - The Chamber of Secrets?
I still haven't heard, and I just saw the Chamber of Secrets preview the other day. I looks pretty good! Thanks!

Check www.imdb.com for such questions, search for John Williams and look at his next scores for 3 years, Williams is doing HP, Episode 3, Catch me if you can from Spielberg and Indiana Jones 4 in 2005, that's his current schedule.

William Ross will be scoring Harry Potter 2,John Williams will only be writing the theme's... I was shocked when I heard. If you don't believe me go to soundtracknet.com.

No, he's not. Look at imdb.com for such events and don't trust any other website. Ross orchestrated What Women Want in 2000 and that's his last job for now. Williams is doing Harry Potter 2 and 3.

Actually, it's not that bad, like Superman 2. John Williams will be composing the new themes and roughly 40 minutes of score, while William Ross will be doing the remainder of the work.

I have read this in several reliable sources, so consider it confirmed.

I'm glad that Mr. Williams will have a hand in it!   Tuesday, July 2, 2002 (8:30 p.m.)

Just as long as John Williams has a hand in it, there is nothing to worry about. There seems to be some contradicting going on in these comments, but it seems confirmed that Mr. Williams will play a role in creating the score, and that was all I wanted to know. I can't wait to hear and see it! Thank you all for answering my question!

I think it would be really regrettable if Williams would not do the entire score; however, William Ross would not do bad as a (partial) substitute. His scores are well structured and rich (T-rex Back to the Cretacious). Besides he's a very good orchestrator, as can be heard in his orchsetrations for Alan Silvestri. He even worked with Conrad Pope, who was one of the orchestrators for AotC, on some of those scores.
I think John Williams will be very careful in making his choice for a co-composer, as he was with SupermanIII and JPIII, and if it turns out to be William Ross for The Chamber of Secrets, I don't think we have really something to worry about.
