John Williams was a relatively fresh face when he scored Star Wars, so if this theoretical tragedy occured, it should be someone similar to take the reigns. Horner, Davis, Arnold, Zimmer (good God, can you imagine?), Goldsmith and the like are all established composers with there own styles, and frankly, are competition to Williams, not succesors. If you've heard anything by Michael Giacchino, you'd know that he would be a prime choice to replace the master. He's His music sounds more like Williams than Williams has for the last ten years. Spielberg actually called him a "little John Williams". Although I don't like to encourage it, use whatever file sharing program you have and try to find a song called "Into the Trees", and you'll see what I mean.
