I have to agree with Christian, the score to Avatar is a five star score. It is the biggest score in terms of volume of music and I have really come to appreciate it. I say I have come because when I first listened to the commercial album I was taken back by the use of the theme from "The Four Feathers" and the similarity of the love theme to Titanic's love theme. The problem is as the reviewer states we are not presented with even half of the score James Horner wrote on the commercial release. Even the movie itself did not use some of the material he wrote for the film or used it in a different way than he originally intended. This is one of those scores that will benefit from a complete release and then perhaps more people will realize the accomplishment of James Horner in the score to Avatar. In my opinion, I believe James Horner deserved to win the Academy Award for best score, although this is not to say that Giacchino's UP is bad because it is very good and I appreciate the efforts of composer's like Giacchino to keep the orchestral score alive.
