So Santaolalla wrote 2 or 3 songs, stole the main theme from James Horner's Apollo 13 (the All Systems Go / The Launch track), reorchestrated it (if this words exists), and got an Oscar.

While geniuses like Thomas Newman and James Newton Howard don't have one. Shame.

Santa Oh La La has not just one, but TWO (TWO FRIGGIN') OSCARS! That's more than the legendary Jerry Goldsmith has! That's more than Elmer Bernstein, James Horner or even BERNARD HERRMANN ever got! And it gets better!! The fact remains that James Newton Howard, Thomas Newman, Alex North, Danny Elfman and ENNIO MORRICONE have never won an Oscar (I'm not counting Ennio's "lifetime achievement" award).

If any point can be made that the Oscars have started to over-favorise independant/non-mainstream films, besides Slumdog's Oscar win over Wall*E and Defiance, this is it. I'm sorry, but the Academy has never really had a feel for film music if they give Babel and Brokeback Mountain music oscars. Sorry, but I know plenty of other people who can improvise on guitar. OSCAR FAIL!
