This is not an incoherent score at all. In my view, it resembles Philosopher's Stone so much that you could easily mix both scores up. This is THE perfect example of contiuity in the entire series.

Secondly, the fact that Williams didn't get an award simply because Ross helped says so (and too) much about the industry. It sounds as though anything that has Williams's name on it might be considered for an award, but if anyone else is involved, it just has to be inferior.

Why is it so important that themes overlap? Did the story even allow this?

I completely agree that the album is lacking certain cues, but then all OSTs are.

Regarding the fact that none of the themes are as transcending as the previous ones, are they meant to be transcending? Is Fawkes, Dobby or Lockheart more important than Harry's family and friends?

'Plagiarism' aside, it should be noted that the first track of the album contains a performance of the flying theme which is ten times more lively than any performance you hear in Philosopher's Stone. The LSO doesn't play with the awful restraint that Philosopher's Stone suffered from. You can actually hear the orchestra is enjoying themselves.

Duelling the Basilisk remains a very adequate cue, COS theme or not. If you prefer blatant statements of that theme to the choir Williams introduced as the sword appears... In the end, it has to serve the scene, which it does.

Why is the Lockheart theme unlistenable?

The Moaning Myrtle theme, on the other hand, IS problematic because I think it misrepresents the character. Myrtle is a sad, crying girl who shows affection for Harry, she's not a creepy creature you should watch out for. It would also not have worked at all in Goblet of Fire.

Thank God Hedwig's Theme wasn't used the way it was in HP1...

Keep in mind that, as the recording sessions show, the Hogwarts theme was at least dialed out once.

Why is it such a problem that cues remind you of other scores? The chess cue from Philosopher's Stone might have been self-plagariasm, but it worked.

Harry's Wondrous World has a different ending on this album.

Patrick Doyle indeed dropped the ball, but he created his own theme for Voldemort, and it was memorable too. Need I say more...? (Possession theme, ahem...?)

I just don't understand how the scores lack magic. If anyone tries to make a case that Magical Household, Mail Drop, Nimbus 2000 or Letters from Hogwarts contain no sense of adventure, they really need to see an ear doctor, and quickly.

It's true that the Chess scene has no rival in this score, but the story is not THAT scary. As I stated above, I think that the performance of this score is better than the first one. Here you are launched into the music, while even the Quidditch music in HP1 sometimes sounds so restraine.

Why is predictability a problem? The duelling scene drums work, the choir that 'ooh-aahs' when Hogwarts is first shown is as magical as something can be.
