Reviewer at the link insults native African throat singing- saying that it "sound like it contains a sample of someone in dire need of the Heimlich manoeuvre". That is NOT a person choking! People have been singing like that for hundreds of years- long before that offensive reviewer was born!!

I didn't say it wasn't authentic. I said I didn't like it. There is a difference. What, aren't I entitled to an opinion now? And, besides, that's what it DOES sound like! For someone who has never heard African throat singing before (which I had not, and I would guess a lot of people here are the same), it is the closest descriptive approximation to the sound I could think of.

And if you think 15 tongue-in-cheek words in a 800+ word review constitutes it being "offensive", I really think you need to re-evaluate the way you judge things.

Then you are a fool and should not be reviewing world music! Do you have any idea how long it takes to learn and get good at that form of singing?

Forgive poor Jonathan. He has moved to the United States and the bad American air has caused him to make commentary that piss off religious and ethnic groups. Like any good American.

Stuff too many chips down a chap and the resulting sound would be similar. That, I think, was the point of the comment.

You know sometimes I find myself struggling to understand how there could be over 40 wars going on in the world today. How people could be mauling and murdering one another with little remorse, reduced to a primitive nature that modern society prides itself on having overcome.
But then I just take a look at a thread like this and see people starting arguments over nothing... How could there NOT be all those wars if the world is filled with people who are willing to fight over something like this?!

I'm not reviewing world music. I'm reviewing a film score which HAPPENS to contain world music. Again, there is a difference.

Probably their entire lives. Your point is?

Hey! I just realised - this is the first bit of "hate mail" I have recieved on here for one of my reviews I linked to!

Cool! I feel so honoured... I'd like to thank my parents, my agent, my manager, my accountant, every actor I've ever worked with, Christian Clemmensen for continuing to let me post my links here...

You should also thank your British Empire for raping Africa of its beauty and supporting Africa's slavery to American drug companies. You British think you'r the best. But you are all "superior" pigs.

Last time I checked, the British Empire ended in the 1960s. 15 years before I was born.

Last time I checked, I also don't remember the beautiful sahara, the majestic Kilimanjaro, the sweeping savannah, and the teeming Congo jungle being obliterated from the mpa.

I notice you are from Belgium. Not wholly opposed to colonialism yourself are you? Or did you conveniently forget that what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo used to belong to your former King... I also should point out to you, a Belgian, that your government considers itself the centre of what I'm sure it would like to be the new "European Empire", with Brussels as its capital.

And I don't consider myself superior. I just think through my arguments before making wild accusations at people.

This is fun

First the africans, now the belgians. You have some problem with the world?

Please, shut up.

If I had something to be ashamed of, I would admit it. However, I made ONE comment describing the sound of an African throat singer in a humourous way, which I believe I was fully entitled to do, and this person starts acting like an idiot.

I have nothing against Africans. I have nothing against Belgians. However, when people lose all track of reality and start making ludicrous statements like the poster above did, everything's fair game.

Please, get some sense of humour (please note the British spelling of the word!).

Sorry Ms. Africana

If I don't like Celine Dion, does that mean I hate all of Canada and am mocking all Canadiennes?

By the way, did you know Africans kept African slaves long before the British came along? And they did, indeed, fight one another for land and power on their own, without any help from the 'British.' But this, of course, was before the 'Magnificent Illusion' treaty of 1507 took hold, when all African tribes banded together and united and made s'mores while they danced around a fire and tried to vomit. That is how throat singing was born. You are right...it surely was a different time back then. Everyone lived in peace a harmony.

Then...the British Came...BUM BUM BUM!

Jonathon obviously forgot what a perfect commune all of Africa was before "The British" came along and raped their perfect perfectitude and all their perfect harmonious flowers and friendship and cookies and love and potpourri and left only warring tribes and cash crops and AIDS and every problem in the African countries.

So you see, the moral of the story is: Africans had crappy music back then too...long before the British came. And, even without Broxton, this music would still be awful. And your feigned indignance is awful. And your histrionics are awful.

And you are awful.

B

PS - But, I don't mean to offend you...unless you are a hippie.
