Crouching Tiger's score is in my opinion, perfect in every way (except the last two tracks which seem very much out of place). The beautiful droning sounds of Yo Yo-Ma's cello fit perfectly with the incredible landscapes of the region in the film. Tan Dun's use of more traditional Chinese instruments is also a mark of genius. This is most apparent in one of the CD's best tracks- The Yearning of the Sword. The cello and erhu seem to flow so naturally together, the result is amazing! I agree that the score seems under promoted. Though it won the Academy Award for best original score!
