I can't believe how generous you are being with this review.
I mean, most of us are John Williams fans, but this soundtrack just doesn't make the cut and it's not even close.
But I should say I saw the movie only, have not listened to the soundtrack, however, I wish John Williams had turned this down and left his legacy at near perfection.
You know you have a winning John Williams soundtrack on your hand when you can sit in the theater and listen to the end credits music and you want to see the movie again.
That is simply not the case here.
The end credits music of this movie has virtually nothing at all to summarize.
It is A FAR DEPARTURE FROM EVERY OTHER INDIANA JONES movie.
Williams, the undisputed champion of leit-motifs, has almost added nothing new to the film franchise.
The music as heard in the movie is horrible.
And I was shocked in the theater to hear copy/paste or re-recorded cues from Belly of the Beast, Escape from Venice in the first 20 minutes of the movie among other tracks.
This is really lowering the standards for what a John Williams soundtrack should be.
But in the end, I don't really blame John for not creating any new compelling content, because he was given nothing interesting to work with. The movie is unwatchable and should never have been made. I can't believe you described this as a fitting end to the franchise - this can only be described as an extreme low point for the films and the soundtracks.
Sorry - I'm a fan of the website but this review just does not ring true.

Music is a matter of taste. This music is horrible according to you. Well, in my opinion every bit of music that Williams has re-used is still 500 times beter than the mediocore crap we have been put up with for the last 20 years.
Movie was not very good, but fun anyway.
