Classic theme. Good review   Sunday, January 19, 2003 (6:19 a.m.)

Congratulations. This was a good review of the Dune score(s) in their wildly fluctuating forms. LOL. I'm a fan of the novels mostly, but even though the Lynch movie fails in many areas, the score was superb. Thank you for that orchestral clip of the Main title from the 1997 release btw. If Dune movies were ever to be made in the future on the vast scale of the LOTR movies we are seeing at this time, then i truly hope the composer that takes on the task will use that theme again. It sums up DUNE for me. Truly great theme. As i live in the UK, i've never seen any other edition around other than the 1984 release. So the other 2 have escaped me thus far. I hope to one day find these around (and thank you for pointing out the shortcomings of the 1997 one....i was unaware of that). Thanks for that detailed review from an obvious Dune fan . Here's hoping i find this 2001 release. It certainly sounds like the best option.

Well, here i am a year later. Picked up the 2001 release recently and i'm very pleased with it. Still not perfect though. I've noticed a couple of subtle wobbly warbles. Most of them are on the first 5 seconds or so of tracks, which would indicate master tape problems perhaps, that cannot be rectified anymore. Some i've noticed are :

16 : The fremen (5 seconds in,it wobbles very briefly)
21 : Reunion with Gurney (6/7 seconds it wobbles briefly)
13 : First Attack (I simply cannot tell with this track. To me,it sounds like it is dragging in places like a heat warped tape. Again, it may just be the actual style. Maybe just a warbly sound to it. In my opinion, there is "some" warp effect there. Anyway, it's a track i dont rate that highly anyway. There are other superb tracks)

But certainly none of the horrors that people speak of on this 1997 release. I'm glad i did'nt get that one.
