It is the same music I have heard in the Perfect Storm and in the Willow. The same drums and the same horns. But why so many people like this music? Because James Horner is one of the best composer of the world? The answer is yes. It's true that he is always copy his latest works, but he always do this from his heart and this is his job. It is the best of the avarage. ** from the *****.

the most problem of horner is that he uses some themes from his older work again,with different type of variation and his scores are often to long,not less than 77 minutes, but i must say better to long as to short think of pearl harbor,so you know that every theme feautered in film is feautered on cd.
the track ten is the best of filmmusik ever heard ,even it is similiar to schindlers list,but in this case this theme is brought in a new context and it has a genius mix of melancholie and epic feelings,this theme could be perfekt
for lord of the rings,when you mix it with some celtic elements.
the first track is also great, this could be also perfekt for lord of the rings,especially for the story of isildur and the last union.
i think if shores score would be not so good,i listen to enemy of the gates and think of lord of the rings story .

That 4-note trumpet motif is driving me crazy. We hear it again, again and again. Why? Why? Why? Is Horner suffering from a lack of creativity?!

If you want to know why it is simple. James Horner does not fear taking music that he has already written and reworking it. He's unique in the fact that he takes a known theme and puts it in a different contex. I don't know why it is driving you crazy. John Williams does much the same. He uses his Raiders of the Lost ark fight music in almost every movie. Michael Kamen....he's the real problem. His them for From the Earth to the Moon was nothing more than a poorly reworked Robin Hood theme. He uses the Die hard music in about everything he does and he has been known to use some of Horner's material. The thing you need to understand about James Horner is that he does not repeat himself to drive you crazy...he reworks his material to show you that his music is able to expand upon any movie at any time. So if the four note motif is driving you crazy just stop listening to it. Thanks

I'm afraid I have to disagree. The first time I ever heard that 4-note motif, I was blown away. It was used to perfection in Willow. However, if Horner were just "reworking" this idea, it wouldn't sound exactly the same in every score. It would be one thing to play around with this theme between various textures and even moods. However, Horner just uses trumpets the repeatedly (and I stress repeatedly) to blast this motif into our skulls. I do agree that Horner gets a lot undeserved bashing, but as a composer myself, I have to say that this is valid.
