Far From Heaven should have won the Oscar |

Why did the AMPAS give the Best Original Score oscar to Frida? Frida is a good score but it's nothing like Far From Heaven. Elmer Bernstein's Far From Heaven captures everything from tragedy to romance to triumph, and it's also a technical achievement. Frida...well...I thought it was good, but it wasn't that good. It was an ethnic score...so what?! Frida was kind of bland and uninteresting, except for a few key moments. Far From Heaven...that score worked from beginning to end. It took me to another time, another place, and helped me to inhabit other characters. I believe that a great film score should also be an awesome listening experience. Frida was a bland listening experience and Far From Heaven was explosive! If only we could demand the AMPAS do a recount of their Oscar voting ballot...then we'd have some real justice.
