I have the feeling that you are speaking also for yourself here, Christian.

Very well, this review was the last straw for me to finally get this score. I haven't seen the film as of yet (Germany rules! ), but I definitely will.

What are the chances to see Goldenthal nominated for his third Oscar here, folks? Although I hope very much for it, I don't expect it to happen...

Well, I have to say that, speaking as someone who owns all of Goldenthal's albums (and loves the vast majority) I think Frida is the least remarkable. Yes it has some pleasant moments but on the whole it's quite mediocre in my opinion and I can't think of a Goldenthal score I would recommend less as a starting point in exploring his incredible output.

In that case, what albums do you recommend?? I have very little experience of his work and would like to see what the big fuss is about Goldenthal.

I recommand ALIEN 3   Wednesday, December 11, 2002 (5:02 a.m.)

I will recommand "A L I E N 3"

BUT BE CAREFULL - You will like it or you will hate it - It depends of your taste for music that breaks the rule and sounds more like an experiment than theme-music

I like alien 3 - but I have to admit that it has been time since I last heard "Alien 3"

I would reccomend, Michael Collins and Titus. I became convenced after hearing those two scores. But it was mainly Titus.

I think I understand, what you mean. You are comparing this score to his own previous works. When you should be comparing it to traditional Mexican music, because that exactly what Goldenthal was doing.

Don't forget that Goldenthal wrote Final Fantasy and he wasn't nominated et all. But I hope the best.
