While I disagree strongly about the reviewers opinion of the film(I love it. It’s flawed no doubt, but it’s still very funny) I can’t help but agree with the score review. The score works in the context of the film but as a listening experience? It’s pretty bland. Though I do disagree that the “Hero theme” isn’t memorable enough to be considered the main theme. Nor does it sound like a cheap Superman theme. Ok maybe it kinda does. But I still kinda love it. The fact that these schlubby paranormal firefighters/janitors have this big triumphant theme is pretty funny in and of itself. But when it kicks in during the moment when the Statue of Liberty is about is smash through the museum roof? I get goosebumps everytime.

I think Elmer Bernstein should’ve been kissing Ivan Reitman’s ass for not using a large chunk of his Ghostbusters score. Had Reitman left in Bernstein’s funk/disco Ghostbusters theme I don’t think the movie would be as well regarded as it is. That is a bad, dated(even for 1984) completely inappropriate theme for the movie. Bernstein’s score, what remains of it as heard in the film, is wonderful. But Reitman was extremely smart to use “Cleaning Up The Town” by the Bus Boys over Bernstein’s funk/disco theme.

As an aside, I’d like to thank the reviewer for finally reviewing this films score. I remember finding this site all the way back in 2002 & the first scores I looked up were Fellowship of the Ring, Spider-Man, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2. When I saw there was no GB2 review I was so disappointed. And now, exactly 20 years later(my god has it been that long?) the review is finally here. So thank you.
