I was just listening to the audio samples for this score and thought I could hear distinct echoes of Maurice Jarre's theme for "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962) That makes this (High Road To China) the second time that Barry ripped-off the Lawrence Theme, the first being "Born Free" which is obviously just a simple variation on Jarre's original theme. I must admit that I feel quite disappointed by Barry's cheaty use of "Lawrence" - I once thought/hoped that he was a composer of integrity. He is certainly very talented, which makes it doubly disappointing that he has resorted to plagiarism in these cases. But I'm afraid I also feel that "Out of Africa" is heavily reliant on the Lawrence "formula" and so too is "Dances with Wolves" to a degree.
