Let me try to give my explanation of why the ppl say something like that.
Many ppl say Hans Zimmers music is always the same. And most of them argue that media ventures OSTs are always the same #####. Why ? I mean it's because of usage of the MoogBrass-Sound. MoogBrass sounds Wonderful in movies, it is very impressive and conspicuous. That's the sound which most of Hans zimmer-Fans automatically associate with Hans Zimmer. Hear to the music of Klaus Badelt from media ventures and u hear this MoogBrass. Hear to Hary Gregson-Williams and u hear the MoogBrass dominating. What do u think why many ppl like the music of series like streethawk & Airwolf ? Its because of MoogBrass. What do u think why Moog synthesizers became one of the best known synthesizers ever ? Because of the MoogBrass. What do other composers do? Danny Elfman takes the real sound of trombones. It is wonderful too but not the same. Williams and Horner dont use it too. Willaims knows only real strings and nothing else and Horner likes horns. Horner-->Horn. Understandable, or not ? :-)hehe.
They all make excellent music but it sounds different and more varied because they dont use this kind of dominant sounds.
So if u prise Zimmers music, also prise Moog for its brass :-)))

p.s. I wonder if "Gods" like Wagner or Berlioz would like or dislike the music of Hans Zimmer if they could hear it.
