Just saw the movie at a media screening. And one point, I thought I was watching a test print with a temp score because I heard familiar cues from The Crow and The Thirteenth Warrior. Turn out THIS is the final mix soundtrack and both Graeme Revell and Jerry Goldsmith were credited. Pay close attention to Orlando Bloom's speech in the end - it's the best use of the Valhalla cue from The 13th Warrior; Sir Ridley Scott did justice to Goldsmith's score than John McTiernan did for the movie. Is this cue on the CD soundtrack?

Well I didn't saw the movie, but if you say the cue name was Valhalla than it is on the 13th Warrior soundtrack:

Definietly not. Goldsmith cue was probably a temp cue which was later left in the movie since the director or the producers felt that the scene works very well with that music. On imdb.com I read from a guy that he was on one of the prescrenings, sometime in january, and he said 13th Warrior was heavily used in the movie, and the film was almost 3 hours long, if not longer.

I saw a screening at the Writer's Guild this evening and recognized the Goldsmith cue. Also, I believe they used the original opera that Hans Zimmer wrote for another Ridley Scott film - HANNIBAL. I also thought that maybe the studio screened the film with a temp score, but the release is only 2 days from today.

Are either of these on the score release? I thought it was kind of sloppy for Ridley Scott to use the same music from another film he made just 4 years ago.

Well, this is no surprise to me. Ridley Scott has been using temp track music in his movies all the way back to Alien, where he bought an older Jerry Goldsmith from another movie because he thought it worked so well. Then, I know he reused a Blade Runner song in another one of his movies. So this is not all that unusual. Personally I don't have a problem with temp tracking as long as the composers are credited.

As mentioned before, during Bloom's speech in Jerusalem, a part of Jerry Goldsmith's cue "Valhalla" (starting at app. 3:50) from "The 13th Warrior" is used. The original recording isn't used. They replayed or better resynthesized it. So that the cue better fits to rest of the score, but now you can easily see how poor all the other music written for the movie is, compared to the Goldsmith's cue.

I HEARD IT TOO!!! lol, Even my dad who isnt as much of a film score nut as me pointed that out!

As soon as I heard that part I knew it came exactly from the Thirteenth Warrior. Nice to know others caught the same thing.
