Krull has been by favorite score ever since I first bought the Southern Cross Record album back in 1983. I saw the film when it was released at cinemas and was blown away by Horner's grandiose music. I loved the stylistic connection to his scores to Star Trek 2 and Battle Beyond The Stars.
Of note is one of Horner's greatest themes "Colwyn's Theme" or the "Main Title". He has never reused it and I don't think it was lifted from any classical source as far as I know. Just a beautiful passage of music!
The new La La Land release is fine. The mix is improved but not dramatically.
The liner notes are great and the art work is terrific (with the exception of the tacky new font used for the title. You can't beat the original!).
For me Krull is a five star effort and will always be (despite its minor imperfections) James Horner's magnum opus!!!
