Hey everybody,
Last night I was watching the Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition. At the end, I just let the credits play and I listened to the music. Well, a fantastic surprise greeted me! After the credits, they scroll through ALL of the members of the LOTR fan club. Obviously that takes time. Well there was music throughout. The first great surprise was at the beginning of the fan club names. The first song to play is the unedited, complete, theatrical film version of "Concerning Hobbits". Wonderful stuff. So I kept listening. After that first track it just plays through the soundtrack basically, except that the cues are left as they are in the film, so some cues are slightly different than those on the soundtrack. However, once the last names got to "O" the best part began. The last song to play is what I would call "The Fellowship of the Ring Suite". It is absolutely the BEST music from FOTR I have ever heard. It starts out with a slow rendition of the "Breaking of the Fellowship" theme, then the most interesting part occurs. Shore does a rendition of Frodo's theme with violin and flute, but I think it's an inversion of that theme. The thought that came to mind was kind of a mix between Braveheart and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It's a spectacular sequence. Also in this "suite", the Fellowship theme plays for a short while. The piece ends with a solo flute performance of Frodo's theme. This ending part could easily be compared to the end of the Apollo 13 soundtrack where the solo trumpet performs the theme to end the score. This music is NOT just edited material. It is stuff that I have not heard in either the film or the soundtrack. Quite simply, it's the best. It would definitely be appropriate as the end to "Return of the King", it's that emotionally charged. If you want to listen to it, it's Disc 2, chapter 21 and fast forward till the names the begin with "O" come up. Also, you can download the CD quality mp3 I extracted from the DVD, on SoulSeek, room MovieMusic. Just search for "Fellowship of the Ring Suite". Hope you enjoy this wonderful piece of music.
