I know this is a music site but I was just wondering but is it ok to be so obsessed about LOTR and especially the beautifull music, to the point where your friends are begining to think you need help???

Of course!! I am! I'd rather be obsessed about something, especially something so inspirational and beautiful as LOTR, than to not have any hobbies or interests in life.

It's not always OK to be obsessed! |

I love the Fellowship of the Ring music, but I don't worship it. I believe it's alright to really like something without becoming obsessed with it. From the sounds of it, the Fellowship is probably your favorite soundtrack.
However, an obsession can be a dangerous thing. Your friends may not feel as comfortable around you since you have this obsession. What I'm saying is that relationships can suffer greatly as the result of an obsession. Which is more important? Your friends? Or a soundtrack? I've seen the destructive nature of an obsession, and it's not a pretty sight.
It is extremely pretty music, but I won't let it interfere with my relationships. Friends are more important than music!

While that may be true its not just the music!! Its The LOTR as whole, books, movies, music and all and trust me Im not the only one in my groups of friends that is obessed. I find it creates something more to talk, debate and argue about. With all the different opinions it makes for some great conversations. And most of my friends have things that they're obssesed about as well.

I totally agree with both of you. Yes, its not just the soundtrack. I looked into LOTR and found how all the symbolism meant things and connected the parallels with my life. It gave me a deeped feel for my relgiong, actually, no matter how odd that sounds to anyone. But it is good to have other hobbies. One should never focus his or her attention on something that they lose sight of everything else. Myself, I still have other hobbies. And though many of my friends don't like LOTR the way I do, they understand my hobby. And I saw LOTR for the first time in my life when not many things were going right. I never got to see my friends and school was getting almost too much to handle. But then I saw the movie, which inspired me to read the books, which inspired me to write my own stories. And now I love writing and it really makes me feel good. One of my best friends I met because we both loved LOTR so much. So, yes, it is ok to be "obsessed," but like all things too much can result in bad things.

Hey aren't you all forgetting about (of course) the ACTORS! Ahhhhh... now it hits you, right. I mean what would the movie be without hot actors ? As in a whole, "books, movie, story...ACTORS!" Yes never forget them... ever. I mean how can you? They're so cute! Especially the Hobbits! Oh! and Legolas! Now how many can agree with me here?? Huh? Huh? Come on, you know you love them! Right? --Thanx--Other--

True Lord of the Rings fans loved the story before the movies came out with "HOT" actors. So you have to ask yourself, Am I really a Lord of the Rings fan? Or am I just a "HOT" actor fan? Yes, there is a big difference!

Obssesed with LOTR?
Your MAD! Star Wars and Harry Potter are soooooooooooooooo much better. Don't get me wrond LOTR is great but how can you like some dudes destroying a ring better than Lightsabre dules? I mean come on! Or some AWESOME story lines about a young wizard? And then the music, Harry Potter is awesome, astounding! Fawkes The Phoenix is beyond awesome! And The Love Theme From Attack Of The Clones, far better! I've read all of the books and I have found Harry Potter and Star Wars to be far greater stories. Oh and Willow now that is a great film and score!

If you would pick up the LOTR books and dig a bit deeper into it, you'd find out that LOTR is about alot more than destroying a ring. LOTR has a whole different scale to it in comparison with Star Wars or Harry Potter. You're bashing something you've no idea about. Trust me, there's so much love of detail in these three LOTR movies that just overruns Potter as well as Star Wars.
But this is about music and you have to consider that these movies of this immense depth and detail and this huge background require a big and bold style of scoring. The choral parts of the score consist of poems directly taken from Tolkien, which have been translated into Quenya, Sindarin, Dwarvish or Black Speech only for these films. Other poems have been written and translated exclusively for the movies. Shore already worked for years on this and is still writing music, so only considering the time and care flown into these scores Lord Of The Rings can be described as a superior score to both, Potter and Star Wars.
And the quality of the result is out of question.

Hey now, obsessions are okay to an extent. But is there any need to get mean? I love the music and I listen to it almost everyday!

I didn't mean to sound harsh or offend anyone in any way. I was simply stating that obsessions CAN be carried to far. I didn't say that all obsessions were dangerous. As you said, they are "ok to an extent." However, many people have become so wrapped up in their obsessions that they become extremely defensive of whatever it is that they are obsessed with. Some people are so defensive that they refuse to respect other peoples opinions. Different people react to things different ways.
Again, I don't mean to offend anyone. I am merely stating what can happen if an obsession is carried to far.

I have a friend like this, they love LOTR and I love it too. It's not hard to fall in love with the story, movie, music, or the actors in it. Personally have become obsessed with Elijah Wood. I think he's really hot now. And I guess it's safe to say I could be obsessed like you too! I mean I watch the movie every time I feel like it which could be every other day. But for you my advise is: It's ok to love LOTR and anything to do with it, but always keep your priorities in order and remember what's most important in your life.

Ya it's ok to be obsessed with the movie, music, story and even the actors.I guess you could say I'm obsessed with all of it. To tell you the truth,I am only 12 years old and a lot of my time goes to finding out more about LOTR. I read the Hobbit and I am reading the Fellowship for the first time. I'm not much of a reader, but when I read those books I get lost in them. My brother says I'm obsessed because I watch the movie almost everyday and when ever I watch the movie I listen to the soundtrack straight through. I like to play out the parts with my older brother Wes sometimes. I have become obsessed with the character of Boromir and my neighbor is obsessed with Elijah Wood also. So yes it is ok to be obsessed with the movie, story, music and actors.:)
