history of the ring theme and "venus" (Holst) |

A number of similarities between themes/motifs/phrases in shore's LOTR score and music by other composers have been cited. However, i find it fascinating that nobody seems to have noticed that "the history of the ring theme", i.e. that mournful little theme that plays over the title card, distinctly resembles the tune in Gustav Holst's "Venus" from "The Planets" (heared about midway through the piece.) It's not exactly identical but it's pretty darn close and was enough to make me feel suspicious. Has anyone else noticed this?
