Whether you consider one or the other better, I am a man who grew up with both franchises. I have read both the LotR and Eaters of the Dead. I can assure you, BOTH are amazing. I will even go so far as to include the Hobbit films into the equation. Do NOT deprive yourself of any of them. While the 13th Warrior is no doubt my favorite due to Dennis Storhoi's portrayal of Herger the Joyous, they are all worthy films.
