No problem, I wouldn't say cello's take the place of them, thats kinda skewed logic (cellos are MUCH older) so it would be the other way around, but the parts are similar and the ranges are similar. But, the Euphoinium can also play REALLY clean technical passages (Cellos can't with the same accuracy) You should check out some of the Holst to see what I mean (its not extremely difficult, but it requires lots of technique). It also has, in my opinion, the richest tone of all the instruments (think the pureness of horns, mixed with the deepness of Tubas) It can really sing, check it out
