Whats the problem with old themes??

I was reading the review and some comments, and there is one thing i really dont understand! Why is it a problem Shore uses old themes in this movie? Its not a different movie, its a 9 hours long story, begining with Fellowship, and finished with this one. If the 3 movies had come out in one part, noone of you would have said why he is using old themes.
