Three years and three films and one big score

After reading the last issue of Music From The Movies, which is all about LOTR and which features a very long interview with Howard Shore, I really can't stand it anymore if someone, like the reviewer here on Filmtracks, compares the three scores with each other and claims that ROTK is inferior to TTT and FOTR.
He's making an essential mistake. The three scores don't rival, they complement each other, so why do so many people cry about the absence of TTT/FOTR themes in ROTK? Had they been on the CD or in the movie, would these themes sound better than they already do?
According to Shore, there's a a whole bunch of new aspects to the score of ROTK and it's difficult to squeeze them into 70 minutes, so there really is no room for nostalgic outbursts of old thematic material. The characters change and so does the music. If you want to hear the fellowship theme from FOTR, listen to FOTR. Want a Rohan overdose? Go to TTT. Thematically, ROTK belongs to Gondor (as Shore says).
After reading through the entire issue, I firmly believe that Shore knew what he was doing on every single page of his score and there's absolutely no good reason to assume he didn't.
What we hear in the film and on CD is exactly what Shore had in mind; and it's absolutely logical what he was doing with ROTK.
If the result doesn't appeal to everyone, that's fine, I've no problem with that.
My problem with the review is, that it criticises ROTK for soemthing it doesn't want to be and it's simply wrong to compare the scores with each other and to give even a "In relation to the trilogy" -rating (no matter how high or how low it might be!).
