>"Chariots of Fire" (John Williams fans continue to cringe)

I have more scores by Williams then by any other composer. I might consider myself a fan of JW.

On the other hand I love Vangelis and "Chariots" is in my opinion the finest synth-based score ever written.

I do not cringe!

"Raiders" lost to "Chariots"! For goodness sake, "Raiders" is a damn fine score but it isn't Beethoven's 9th symphony! Choosing "Chariots" isn't a sacrileg or something.

"Raiders" lost to "Chariots"! That's a tough one buts it's OK. Had it been the other way around it would have been just as well.

Probably the Academy got a little fed-up with the ongoing Willimania. Or it got carried away by the hype surrounding "Chariots" as a film. Whatever.

"Raiders" lost to "Chariots"! Get over it. Williams himself recorded a version of "Chariots of Fire" for "The Sound of Glory", remember?

The Oscar went to Vangelis. Good choice!

Regards,
Volker
