Your review and analysis is hampered by the fact that you had accepted the screenplay and its performers as the only acceptable ones. You could not have an open mind. As one who never saw the screenplay, I can tell you that the movie was fabulous and Butler's voice wonderful. He played the Phantom so well that I would be reluctant to ever see the broadway production. It is really a matter of which were you exposed to first. The beautiful romantic love story is winningly done by Butler, Rossum and WIlson.
