Now Playing: Duality (Lisa Gerrard)
I've just read the Richard's review and I've found it perfect except for one point. The Duduk is not Japanese at all! The Duduk, also called May or Balaban, is a sort of primitive Oboe with no mechanics, a very limited range and a difficult intonation. It's very difficult to play but it has a beautiful sad and haunting sound. It doesn't have anything to do with Japan though. Actually it's originally from Armenia. You can also find it in Azerbaijan, in some place in Russia and in some old Russian melody, in Syria, Turkey, Middle East in general. Maybe you are confusing it with the Shakuhachi, which is approximately the same instrument but available in more different tones. This one is from Japan. That's all.
Congratulations to Richard for his perfect review anyway. Very well done.
