You are correct. The soundtrack for "Seabiscuit" is in many ways an equine version of that for "The Natural." The theme you mention, which is heard when the Santa Anita racetrack is first seen (i. e., Seabiscuit's arrival in "big time" racing) is almost identical to that used in a montage in "The Natural" when the New York Knights, led by Ray Hobbs, go on their winning streak. What was Randy Newman thinking? Did he assume that no one would recall the score from "The Natural"? I thought that the score for "Seabiscuit," while pleasant, was undistinguished, "lazy," and not worthy of Randy Newman. "Seabiscuit" is a great movie, unless you have read Laura Hillenbrand's book, in which case it is only a "great" movie in comparision to the rest of the summer's lousy movies. But the score is one of the real weak points in the film. I am amazed that the producers did not require Randy Newman to come up with more original themes for the soundtrack.
