The one basic thing to be remembered about the "Signs" score is that it wasn't supposed to have any kind of major, outcoming themes - because like Shyamalan's general outtake on movies, the scores must be about atmosphere. Pervading, invading, the one recurring motif in "Signs" is a jarred, repetitive piano "theme" composed of three recurring notes, played on different scales. The last two tracks are amazing, bringing the entire movie and score to a satisfying resolution, much like the movie - everything seems to build up to that one point. I find "Signs" to be an excellent background listen, maybe because you can turn it on at any point, without bothering about any kind of concrete follow-up. OK, granted this is probably a bad thing, but for lazy listeners I find that rather neat.
