Oscar?   Monday, October 28, 2002 (8:29 a.m.)

Do you think that this score can have an Oscar nomination? I think this is a good score, and since Howard wasn't nominated for The Sixth Sense, wich I think was dum, this time he has a chance.
Do you agree?

I'd love to see him nominated, but... this depends of many factors. Do the academy members will be remembering late-summer sci-fi movie? For me Signs is a great movie, I don't know if it was praised or slammed in America. If Signs will be considered at other nominations, it could get also for a best score. This is the best score this year so far and for me it won Oscar already ( I must wait for The Two Towers to be sure on that )

This score needs to be nominated. But you can't trust the academy to EVER do anything right.

Do you agree?

Well, they got it right with Lord of the Rings.

so they can do something right.

That's true, but recently the best score award win the scores that have a classical-touch like 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' or 'Red Violin'. LOTR belongs also more to this category than the typical hollywood-sounding score, so maybe Signs uniqe mood might have some chance...in duel with The Two Towers
