A suspense/Horror movie cannot be composed without acknowledging the great Bernard Herrmann. The opening sequence could have easily been written by BH. This man set the standard for composing in this genre. Listen to Howard Shore's, "Panic Room", Alan Silvestri's, "What Lies Beneath", Brian Tyler's, "Frailty", and the recent movie, "Swimfan" by John Debney and Louis Febre and one will quickly realize who truly was the master of suspense! Hurray for BH!

Every body is saying that bernard herrmann is the ispiration for this score. I beg to differ. Might i suggest a listen to saint-saens "Danse Macabre". The out of tune violin From this score was obviously taken from that piece. However, the cello and brass works in "Signs" take some obvious reference to Herrmann's "Cape Fear". I wish more composers would copy his style. So dramatic!
