Ok, I usually type long, but I'll make this short. James Newton Howard in recent years, while previously virtually unknown, has been moving way up in my book as one of the best film composers American music has to offer. He's so far, the only person that I see has a chance of rivaling the likes of the ultimate greats, John Williams and James Horner. The score for signs is one of the most simplitic, yet deathy frightening things I've ever heard. Never since Jaws has anyone been able to come close to the ultimate horror and majesty that John Williams did, untill now. I think JNH will move way up in the ranks to become one of the greatest composer ever in film history. Being usually a strict Williams/Horner fan (with the occational Goldsmith and Zimmer thrown in), I think that signs has some of the greatest suspense music ever written, and the orchestration (especially the horn gliss right at the beginning of "Asthma Attack") is absolutely brilliant. I would without a doubt have given this 5 stars. Just the "Hand of Fate" tracks and Main Title are worthy of this!!
