For me Superman 3 is the weakest of the Christopher Reeves films and the score by extension. Having said that I don't think it's awful or unlistenable as the Filmtracks review says. As a composer, I know the limitations a composer like the late Ken Thorne faced. Re-cuts of the film, very little time to compose and orchestrate, budgets and so on. As the last creative contributors to the project, one must consider that film composers don't compose, orchestrate and record the music at their leisure. The fact that a composer gets the job done at the end of the day is a fete in itself. I agree that it (a score in general, not just this one) isn't the 'best' work of the assigned composer. I feel words like 'awful' and 'unlistenable' are not really fair.
