In that case I agree. Tyler should have just been honest and said he'd prefer to write his own themes, rather than constructing his score around someone else's. It's understandable, but at least be upfront about it and don't try and come up with some faux justification.
I've never read that tidbit about Marvel wanting to keep Doyle's themes...as you say, I didn't do my research ...but if it's the case, I do wonder why they didn't just bring Doyle back in the first place.
