Randy Newman's score was cut late in post-production by director Wolfgang Peterson for being "too loud and blatty."
After Randy Newman's score was rejected, a new composer had to be found to do the score in the two weeks that were left. In the end, longtime film composer Jerry Goldsmith got the assignment, but was so daunted by the amount of time he had to write the score that he now requests his assignments be given to him months in advance of the finishing of a film's final cut.
