I am a clarinet performance major at the University of Michigan and a lover of film and classical music. While I admit that many film composers do borrow from other composers, James Horner blatantly rips music from prominent composers for his scores. This is evident in much of his music. In the first real battle scene in Troy, where Achilles is storming the beach, Horner uses the theme from Shostakovich's 5th Symphony the Finale (movement 4). It is absolutely obvious that this is wshere he got the idea. The music is almost verbatim and it might even be in the same key. Mr. Horner, please write some of your own music because you are most certainly a hack.
