After seeing the movie and paying special attention to the score (which I find to be great fun), I found that one of the themes mentioned in the review is a bit off, which may be because it was reviewed before the movie came out. Not that this is a big deal, but you know, I just wanted to pipe up with my two cents.

"A subtheme with traditional guitar for Transylvania", which is heard on track 4 and 8, isn't a Transylvania theme as much as a "traveling theme". It's first used in the film as Van Helsing walks the streets looking for Mr. Hyde. Then as VH journeys by boat and horseback. Later as he tears off toward Rome with Frankenstein's monster it's used again and finally the score finishes off with him riding off toward home after it's all over. It might even be the actual theme for the character, with the the bolder action theme being simply the "heroic" theme.

Actually, the filmmakers used the guitar theme pretty regularly, something you don't get an impression of on the album.

This is not the greatest score ever, but it is one of the most fun to come out of Silvestri and it's a CD which gets regular play in my stereo.
