And this sort of comment is one of the main reason I'm not including a comment feature on the score review website I'm putting together!

Yes, he did write the music for the movie. That's generally how it's done with film scores. But these sites that review film scores are generally reviewing how the music works on an album, on its own, with less focus on how it works in the movie. It may work brilliantly in the movie -- I don't know, as I've very little interest in seeing the movie -- but the reason I read these reviews is to help me decide whether it's worth it for me, a film score lover, to invest in the music divorced from the film.

And, even without having heard the score I'll say I'm not so sure that no composer could have done as well. Williams has done some good horror scores, but it's not exactly his forte.
