What Lies Beneath Christian's Review...   Friday, August 18, 2000 (11:52 a.m.)

...I do!

Anyways - I like this score. For me it's the ultimate act in subltety and nuance. With Marco Beltrami's SCREAM music setting the trend for horror pictures these days, it's nice for a thrilling effort like WHAT LIES to rely on minimal use of music (and when it does appear it's just enough - not compensating).

Check out my review below for more...(I'm probably one of the folks giving WHAT LIES good on-line buzz!)

I did like this score...about 10 minutes of it! I thought the rest was just a little too subtle. The only high points, in my opinion, were the pounding, well-constructed action cues. The rest seemed to be themeless and pointless outside the film. There are actually parts that sounded a tad like Vertigo and a bit like Psycho. This shows that Alan knows what he's doing. The film itself was aiming for a Hitchcockian type style, although it didn't quite succeed.

I saw the film the first day, first showing it came out...WOW!!! Top rate thriller!!! I loved it so much the next day I watched the latest showing the theater was packed. Everybody was talking all through the previews, but as soon as the show started the talking ended. Everyone jumped and screamed at the same time. This movie is truly one of Ford's best, and the best thriller of all time!!! As for the soundtrack...I'd give it a rating 9 of 10. It is realy awsome except for the length(half hour), you couldn't ask for a better soundtrack.
