Review status: first half of 2010   Wednesday, July 14, 2010 (2:27 p.m.)

Despite lingering financial issues relating to the economy, it's been a very productive year of growth for Filmtracks so far. A migration to a new server in May will ensure a stable platform for continued recovery of traffic to early 2000's levels. The number of regular readers at Filmtracks has increased steadily since the site's major 2009 upgrades and addition of new features. Activity at the Scoreboard has been a solid improvement over 2006-2007 participation levels.

As for the reviews, it was my goal to write 140 new reviews and update 15 existing ones (to account for new album releases) this year. In the first half of 2010, I ended up completing 84 new reviews (though not all have debuted on the site as of yet) and 17 re-writes. The latter number reflects a high quantity of specialty releases of older scores so far in 2010, which, between those products and the high quality of many major new scores, has proven to be a very satisfying year for film music thus far.

With the birth of my second son scheduled for the start of August, expect a somewhat slower rate of reviewing in the third quarter of the calendar year. Ten new reviews have already been written in July, however, so it looks as though I'll surpass my new-review goal for the entire year with ease. Expect future coverage to reflect the site's current balance of new theatrical releases and popular scores from the past thirty years.

And, once again, many thanks to those of you who have donated to Filmtracks and secured its financial viability through the end of this year. I remain optimistic that the site's longevity and thousands of regular readers will carry it through this difficult economic time for all of us.

Christian
