Aside from a general improvement in Filmtracks' financial stability so far in 2011, not much has changed since the mid-point of 2010. Traffic numbers have remained stable, the 2010 server upgrade has handled all of the site's foundational upgrades from 2009 with ease, and activity at the Scoreboard continues to be superior to levels seen five years ago. The boycott of SiriusXM for removing Cinemagic from their primary satellite service earlier this month has proven more successful in luring search engine traffic than initially hoped.

Review output in 2011 has been on par with goals set at the start of the year, but not in the type of reviews desired. The total number of "touches" to reviews (a combination of new reviews and re-writes) is ahead of schedule, with 77 reviews touched. The goal for the entire year in that regard is 130. However, that productivity is weighted heavily towards re-writes; the re-write goal for the entire year was 30 and in the first half alone, 32 were completed. On the other hand, this year's targets for all-new reviews included 60 reviews of new albums and 40 reviews of old albums. Thus far, 26 and 19 have been completed, respectively, not including 6 written so far in July.

Although I'm not really that far behind the pace on new reviews, it should be mentioned that the goals in this category were already lowered in 2011 compared to 2010. Thus, the overall output has been disappointing. The need to re-write older reviews to account for expanded or re-issued releases has alone caused this issue; by the end of July this year, Filmtracks will have added more such products to re-written reviews than in all of 2010. Perhaps this swing towards re-writes is inevitable given Filmtracks' expanding database of coverage and labels' increasing tendency to re-release music from the era covered at the site. The re-write numbers in 2011 have been skewed, however, by the need to revise a dozen Danny Elfman reviews to account for the infamous Elfman/Burton box set.

Expect the pace of new coverage to increase slightly through the rest of the summer, for there are over twenty new and re-written reviews ready to debut. No major project outside of the reviews is planned for the remainder of the year. As always, I extend my gratitude to the handful of regular Filmtracks readers who donate funds each month to the site. While the outlook for the financial viability of Filmtracks continues to improve as the global recession wanes, these donations still ensure that the site remains solvent in the interim.
