Filmtracks On Cue

On Cue for November, 2006:

11/30/06The Life and Music of Basil Poledouris: (Video) - Expanded Review
Buy it... only if you're an extreme Basil Poledouris enthusiast, or are a fan of his popular daughter Zoe.
Avoid it... if the hassle of finding and purchasing the old VHS-format video isn't worth the money you could spend instead on one of Poledouris' collectible scores.

11/25/06Monstrous Movie Music: (Compilations) - Expanded Review
Buy it... on any of the equally qualified albums from the 'Monstrous Movie Music' label if you grew up loving those B-rate atomic-inspired sci-fi flicks of the 1950's.
Avoid it... if even the greater fidelity in sound quality of these re-recordings won't satisfy your digital era sensibilities.

11/19/06The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: (Howard Shore) - All New Review of Complete Set
Buy it... in the complete set if you are an audiophile or keep the original album in the front row of your collection.
Avoid it... in the complete set if you are satisfied with the 16-bit stereo sound of the original album and see no need for additional material or sound quality.

11/8/06Composer Basil Poledouris has died
It was announced on November 8th that Basil Poledouris, enduring a lengthy battle with cancer, has passed away. At the end of his lengthy and productive mainstream career, Poledouris' final feature score came for the Chinese adventure film The Touch in 2002. He had made a concert appearance in Spain as recently as several months ago, and was only 61 years old. You can visit Filmtracks' Poledouris Tribute for information about his career, or honor Poledouris' achievements and the influence his music had on you at the Scoreboard.

11/7/06King Kong Lives: (John Scott) - Expanded Review
Buy it... if you want an excellent sampling of some of the best adventure material ever composed by John Scott in his lengthy career.
Avoid it... if you have no interest in engaging and massive orchestral action music.

11/2/06Steel: (Mervyn Warren) - Expanded Review
Buy it... if you're a fan of badly dated 1970's pop rock of Shaft variety for your DC Comics superheroes.
Avoid it... if the above statement doesn't sound quite right and you're tired of highly derivative David Arnold-style orchestral action music.
