Filmtracks On Cue

On Cue for October-December, 2014:

Blue Icon
12/24/14 Star Trek Into Darkness  (Michael Giacchino) - Updated Review, With Additional Album
Buy it... if you adore John Williams' whimsy for patriotism and adventure like that which you'd hear in his countless rousing, stately concert pieces of the 1980's and 1990's.
Avoid it... if obtaining the occasionally rare score on album is not worth redundant and surprisingly flat-sounding Williams ideas that would be more finely tuned in future works.

Blue Icon
12/22/14 SpaceCamp  (John Williams) - Updated Review, With Additional Album
Buy it... if you adore John Williams' whimsy for patriotism and adventure like that which you'd hear in his countless rousing, stately concert pieces of the 1980's and 1990's.
Avoid it... if obtaining the occasionally rare score on album is not worth redundant and surprisingly flat-sounding Williams ideas that would be more finely tuned in future works.

Blue Icon
11/2/14 The Lion King  (Hans Zimmer/Elton John) - Updated Review, With Additional Album
Buy it... on the impressive 2014 "Legacy Collection" album from Disney if you desire a superior new mix of the scores and songs as they appeared in the film, especially with an impressive and fresh perspective on the important Hans Zimmer score.
Avoid it... on the commercial projects solely and also seek the leaked recording sessions or other available cues from bootlegs and promos if you desire a fuller selection of the immense amount of variations on the material recorded by Zimmer for this score.

Blue Icon
10/19/14 The Expendables 3  (Brian Tyler) - All New Review
Buy it... only if you have a firmly established desire to maintain a complete collection of the music from this franchise, because it's been a steady downhill journey in thematic satisfaction and the grandeur of the rendering since the 2010 entry.
Avoid it... if you expect to hear fresh action genre exploration or the Jerry Goldsmith-inspired theme in satisfyingly complete fanfare renditions, the lack of either yielding one of the most disappointing Brian Tyler scores.
