March/April 2019
4/18/19 Schindler's List   (John Williams)
Updated Review, With Additional Album
Buy it... if you're not afraid of being fundamentally moved by an overwhelmingly emotional, artistic masterpiece, the most subtly potent triumph in the storied career of John Williams.
Avoid it... only if the oppressive weight of the subject matter bothers you too greatly to be able to appreciate its undeniably powerful musical accompaniment.
4/4/19 Die Another Day   (David Arnold)
Updated Review, With Additional Album
Buy it... if you applauded David Arnold's gradual shift of the music in the James Bond franchise towards a harder, scrappier attitude of abrasive techno and electronica style.
Avoid it... if you value any part of the heritage in the songs and scores of the franchise, for Madonna and Arnold's ultra-modern reconceptualization of its music remains a nightmare for many devoted Bond collectors.
3/24/19 The World is Not Enough   (David Arnold)
Updated Review, With Additional Album
Buy it... on the expanded 2018 La-La Land album if you desire some of David Arnold's more symphonically potent cues missing from the original 1999 product, the longer presentation not as dominated by the score's harsher technological passages.
Avoid it... if you expect Arnold to offer the same impressively balanced blend of symphonic force and electronica rhythms that made the Tomorrow Never Dies score a classic in the James Bond franchise.
3/15/19 Balto   (James Horner)
Updated Review, With Additional Album
Buy it... if you've always held a soft spot for James Horner's animated children's film scores, for Balto represents an affable and superior culmination of his talents in the genre.
Avoid it... if even the general, comparative lack of self-referencing to Horner's previous works in Balto can't warm you up to the still highly specific style of his music for this kind of film.
