  • Posting History:

(last updated June 2015)

A little about me - My first name is Peter and I use to post under the user name "a2ert" way back when I first started posting on the old Scoreboard.

I grew up in the northwest corner of Connecticut and my family now lives in a reasonably small town in Central New Hampshire, USA that is about 90 miles north of Boston, Massachusetts. I went to a small liberal arts college in the middle of nowhere way, way upstate New York and I finished up my college course work in the December of 2009. I majored in Government and Music and I also was a member of the string ensemble at college for my last two semesters - Unfortunately, I haven't touched my violin that much since then.

After graduation, I went to Washington, DC and worked as an intern on Capitol Hill for a while before heading out onto the campaign trail to help candidates raise money (I will not say for what party here). So far, my travels have taken me back to Connecticut, Iowa, and New York (where I am as of June 2015).

The first piece of orchestral music that I really liked was 'Summon the Heroes' by John Williams and 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' by John Williams was the first soundtrack that I actually bought - that was in 2001. After that, the rest is history. Now I will to listen to just about anything as long as it is performed by an orchestra and chorus if there is one.

----

Some information about my library:

Since I started collecting music, my collection has been split pretty evenly between classical music and film scores.

According to the spreadsheet that I have and stats from Itunes, I currently have 1114 soundtracks totaling about 55.7 days worth of music.

However, my collection of classical music is slightly larger as Itunes says I have 61.2 days worth of music.

Soundtracks -- 55.7 days (47.65%)
Classical -- 61.2 days (52.35%)
Total -- 116.9 (100%)

----
How is my collection disbursed by decade and year?

2010s - 227
2000s - 465
1990s - 236
1980s - 98
1970s - 30
1960s - 28
1950s - 7
1940s - 5
1930s - 4

I definitely need to do a better job of exploring older scores!

What are my favorite soundtracks/pieces of music?

Below you will find a list of my top 100 film scores, followed by a list of 120 more scores that I have rated ***** stars. The list is ordered by rating and then the year.

I use a slightly augmented version of the ***** star scale to rate the scores in my collection and the top 79 scores receive a rating of *****1/2 or above. Only 20 scores get a ****** rating.

In addition, a list of my top 100 favorite pieces of classical music is further below, although I could very well be forgetting something critical in it. The pieces are ranked in order of my favorite within each category (ex. choral, symphony, orchestral, concerto).
