Regulars at Filmtracks know that I rarely advocate seriously for causes unrelated to soundtracks at this site, with the obvious exception of the American political endorsements every four years. I now have a cause that's so important to me personally, however, that I ask for your consideration and support.

A few of you I converse with away from the site know that Stella and I bought a small forest in poor condition near Seattle in 2016 and have been restoring it ever since. It's been a (expensive) labor of love for us, but nothing is more rewarding to us than clearing invasive, noxious species and planting trees. When I'm not maintaining Filmtracks in my spare time, there's a good chance I'm covered in dirt as I work in the forest.

To our immense sadness, clear-cutters purchased the forest next to ours and tore it down to bare dirt because they wanted to live on a pasture instead. They did this without proper permits, and their clear-cutting extended into our forest. Now they have submitted for another permit that includes removing up to an additional 70 trees from our forest in a disputed easement on which they want to build a second entrance to their planned "agricultural operations."

A community website meant to lobby the county permit reviewers and stop the clear-cutters is at https://www.southworthforest.org and I've set up a GoFundMe account at https://gofund.me/aad8d0d8 to help boost both our restoration efforts and legal challenge to the clear-cutters. These efforts mean the world to us.

Stella and I are launching a social campaign for this cause, and we're asking our friends in the soundtrack community to share the GoFundMe link with all the tree-lovers they collectively know. This is climate change up close and personal, folks, and it's our chance to stop pointless clear-cutting even though it's in merely one small forest.

If you are considering a donation to Filmtracks, I ask that you support this GoFundMe campaign instead over the next few months so we can build some momentum for our trees:

(The cut taken by GoFundMe and Paypal is identical.)

If any of you feel really passionately about forests, then I encourage you to email the permit reviewers listed at https://www.southworthforest.org and tell them that the forest violators should restore more of the habitat that they weren't originally permitted to destroy, too. All the pressure helps!

I will be shifting some of the ads at Filmtracks over to this link shortly. If only we could summon some Ents...

Many thanks,

Christian
