Now Playing: Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid - Rozsa
|
Got another busy day today. So I'm going to stick with my latest aquisistions. "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" is a really great classic noire score, especially considering it was writing in 1982. It is also pure Rozsa. So many familiar stylings in this score, and some of them surprising in their appearance (at least for me). I did not expect to hear motifs from "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" but there you go.
I also have to say that "Seconds" is was a surprise in a lot of ways. Since I'm better versed in Goldsmith's work from the 60s these days, I now hear all kinds of elements from those scores being mixed into this one. There is a little "Artist Who Didn't Want to Paint" in here, some of his work from "Thriller!" and maybe some "Papillion" too. But as Goldsmith is so good at, he gives the score its own identity. It not an easy listening experience, but man it is impressive.
What are you listening to?

Yep, him and Ottman were the best X-Composers.
