The Japanese release of the soundtrack contains an additional score cue, Canyon Dogfight, that is actually a pretty exciting action cue and gives me hope that there is more noteworthy material yet to be released, so I'm looking forward to hearing an expanded score treatment.

I suspect for the initial mainstream soundtrack release they were trying to somewhat mimic the soundtrack to the original film: We get Danger Zone, Great Balls of Fire, two pop songs by OneRepublic and Lady Gaga that are this film's versions of Playing With The Boys and Take My Breath Away (beach sports scene and love theme, respectively), and a new take on the Top Gun Anthem, and then just round it out to an acceptable 40 min album length with a small handful of score highlights. Seems like this album was aimed at mainstream music buyers and not at us score collectors.
