I'm not saying Williams' score for A.I. is bad.
BUT -wouldn't it be better to ask Hans Zimmer or Vangelis to score the movie?
I really missed some real magic in the music when I saw A.I. The music could have been so much better...it is too underplayed with no special theme (in my opinion).

Who would it be folks -if you could choose who to score the movie? Hans Zimmer or Vangelis? Or perhaps both composing the music together ?

Think about Elliot Goldenthal. He can be good whit his music for A.I. If you listen Final Fantasy yust imagine that it is from A.I. What do you think? I also think that Zimmer or Vangelis would do. Because this film needs the kind of music, that only this two people can do right.

Williams is a right guy on a right place. Not for the first time he showed that he can handle the difficult jobs. His score hasn't so much emotional side like E.T. or Close Encounters, but this time the topic was more adult. The thing about the theme. Yes it has a great theme, but is unfortunetly often played with piano or is used in the background. I wish it would be played by full orchestra. The rest of the score is good or sometimes very good- my favorite scene and the illustration of music is when Jude Law's characters stands in front of the raising moon- brilliant Williams and cinematographer Kaminski. Also the vocal parts are quite impressive.For me it is a ****-score.

What about a collaboration between Hans Zimmer and John Williams on this score?

Sorry for my late response. It would be a great event, but... rather impossible. As far as I know Mr.Williams is considering himself as a kind of a "cesear" in a scoring bussiness and I doubt if he want to work with Hans Zimmer. If you take a focus on a number of projects that Williams is working on per a year- now it is 1 0r 2 films/year, only with his usual collaborators:Spielberg, Columbus,O.Stone, sometimes Lucas. So if they both would be working together what kind or size the film must it be?

It's not that important whether the film is a huge or a small movie.
My point is that these two composers are able to compose great THEMES. Think about a movie witch is supposed to touch peoples souls (requirement: great, magic and mindtouching music. not directly heroic or sad, but something between. just beautiful themes). It would be very interesting to hear these composer's themes in such a motion picture (by the way, let's not forget Vangelis).

If I heard word Vangelis I hear in my head a really magnificent main theme from Chariots of Fire- this is a great THEME, this music really touching. When I was watching this movie I was waiting to the very end credits only to hear that music, but unfortunately I dissapointed myself ( this theme appearing only during the opening credits), the rest of the music was so-so, nothing particular. Then there is also a very intriguing and cool though electronic theme from Blade Runner- it appears in end credits of the film.:) Do you know that the first half of this track ( kind-a hindi sounds ) appears in 1492:Conquest of Paradise, when the troop of conquerors going through the virgin jungle of New Continent it fits to this movie perectly.So, yes Vangelis has ability to create as You said mindtouching music. He has also great themes to the Antarctica ( japanese movie) and The Bounty ( I've heard only themes rom those movies)
